Breakfast in Bed
This body of work concerns the visual representation of relationships and companionship. My starting point was an internet search which brought up images demonstrating a physical connection of some kind like holding hands. I felt I wanted to demonstrate companionship and closeness in a relationship without those physical connections. Immediately I thought of my parents who share breakfast in bed with the papers every Sunday and have done for many years. I set out to recreate their close and long lasting relationship of 55 years with this series called 'Breakfast in Bed'. Whilst in the first image they are sharing breakfast and their was a physical closeness, the following two images show moments shared reading the papers. Each one focused on their own reading but still sharing the same intimate space, remote and yet together. These are scanned medium format prints.
